10 years strong now, Abel’s Ice Cream was founded in 2011 by Bill and Norma Abel, who insisted on bringing the best of the best ice cream, chocolates, and gourmet products to the Sarasota community.

Our Florida-based ice cream maker began in 1982, is a All Star ice cream maker. They have won over 40 national ice cream ribbons and are on the national ice cream advisory committee. Sweet Shop U.S.A., our chocolatier has been making designer confections since 1972, and our Sarasota popcorn company, Tropical Shores Popcorn has been a popular local favorite for years.  In 2016, Bill and Norma passed their operation to Jerry and Jill Williams, who continue to build on the Abel’s solid foundation. Bill and Norma are trusted mentors and frequently drop by for ice cream and conversation.

Hailing from Kansas City, Jerry and Jill both dreamed of retiring someplace warm.  So, while vacationing a few years ago, the warm weather and sunny beaches beckoned, and the search for a second career began.  Jerry’s successful career in restaurant management, coupled with Jill’s accounting and business background made them a perfect fit for business ownership.

In Abel’s Ice Cream, the Williams found not only a fantastic business, but a wonderful community of friendly people.  They feel blessed to call Sarasota home, and enjoy getting involved through the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce and their church. Jerry serves on the board of Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce as well as the board of his H.O.A.. They are excited to be able to share love by continuing their involvement in local charitable events.
